The world’s only film festival dedicated to mushrooms and molds – The Fungi Film Fest (FFF) – has announced the premiere dates and 16-film program for its 2025 incarnation. This year the FFF will feature works representing 8 countries, including Brazil, Canada, Italy, Norway, Taiwan, Venezuela, and USA. With a total run time of over nearly four hours, this niche festival’s sixth year offers another visually stunning example of why mycology (the science of mushrooms, molds, yeast, and lichens) has recently increased in popularity.
The 2025 FFF covers a range of genres, with film lengths of 3 to 90 minutes. Experimental, comedy, abstract, documentary, and even B-horror are all there. Some pieces are visually striking odes to these strange underground organisms, as seen in the 16 sentimental minutes of Studies on Entangled Life (Tuane Eggers, Brazil) or the inspiring 20-minute documentary Peaks to Prairie (Chad Weber, USA), which covers fungi-powered post-wild fire habitat recovery efforts. This year also brings the FFF’s first-ever feature length horror film, Tie Die (Morgan Miller, USA): an over-the-top and low-budget run of psychedelic slaughter featuring cult film legends Joe Bob Briggs and Lloyd Kaufman.
The 2025 FFF kicks off December 4 at the historic Cinema 21 theater in Portland, Oregon (616 NW 21st Ave), where attendees get the chance to pick the Audience Choice Award. After the Fest’s launch, the whole program will be viewable on-demand via Vimeo from December 4, 2025 until January 4, 2026.
