As a film festival with a global reach, the FFF works to:
The FFF was founded in 2020 as an online festival. During a time when in-person activities were limited, the FFF provided an inspiring means for the fungi-curious to connect worldwide. That first year, the Fest received nearly 100 international submissions, prompting its welcomed return in 2021. The 2022 FFF premiered live in Portland, Oregon at the historic Cinema 21 – a tradition repeated for the 2023–2025 Fests.
Combined, the first six years of the Fest have brought over 130 fungi-centered films to the big screen. Genres have spanned from documentary, to sci-fi, to abstract and experimental pieces. The broad range of approaches to visualizing fungi that are submitted each year has proven the importance of curating this platform as a unique container for mycocultural development. Indeed, the success of the FFF is what prompted its founder, Peter McCoy, to launch Mycoculture Research, Arts, and Development in 2026 and expand the means by which anyone can share their perspective on the fungal kingdom.
Like most film festivals, the FFF is only available to watch for a short period of time. Depending on when you are trying to catch the fest, it may be available to stream online, available to rent for group screenings, or not available. Check here for all currently available viewing options.
