ABOUT THE

RMC

CELEBRATING FUNGI, people, and planet
Intention
Since 2011

The Radical Mycology Convergence is a biennial celebration of mushrooms and the people that love them. Through a thoughtfully curated blend of science, art, connection, and play, the RMC offers an experience unlike any other mushroom-focused event.

It’s a special gathering organized by a team of life-long mushroom experts and advocates and attended by hundreds of people from around the world.

mission

Over four days, beginner and experienced fungi-friends of all stripes come together to be inspired and learn practical skills that help people and planet. The mornings and afternoons are filled with dozens of workshops that cover topics as diverse as mushroom cultivation, natural medicine making, healing disturbed habitats, contributing to citizen science, and making art with fungi.

In the evening, special events provide unforgettable moments of connection and celebration. In between it all, friendly competitions and immersive spaces inspire attendees to take their love (or curiosity) for fungi to new depths with a diverse lineup of scientists, artists, and educators.

Values
Advance the Mycoculture
Grow A Healthy Community
Learn From the Fungi

Advance the Mycoculture

The RMC promotes the growth of mycology – from its traditional and citizen science research base, to its intersections across the arts, history, and cultures. We see the current state of mycology as the starting place of an unexplored aspect of the human endeavor and encourage an open mind for engaging with all that mycology offers, so that it most fully flourishes.

Grow A Healthy Community

All are welcome and invited to take part in discussing the modern rise in mushroom awareness. And so the RMC encourages the growth of personal relationships with mycology – as well as the unmediated expression of that unique perspective – throughout the gathering.

Learn From the Fungi

The RMC encourages reflecting on the many lessons that await in the traits of fungi. Patterns of resilience, co-operation, self-reliance, stewardship, and healing are found in all aspects of mycology, and are infused throughout the RMC. We encourage everyone to seek new means for mirroring these traits in their lives and in their exchanges with others and the environment.

History

Founded in 2011, the RMC began as a reflection of a booklet (zine) entitled Radical Mycology, which had been written by Peter McCoy two years prior. That first gathering was initially intended to be a small event. As word spread, though, it quickly grew into a gathering of hundreds of people from around the world.

Over the following 13 years, six more RMCs were held – Washington (2012), Illinois (2014), New York (2016), and Oregon (2018, 2022, 2024) – with each incarnation bringing a new suite of teachers, attendees, and insights to the Radical Mycology movement. For 2026, we are thrilled to return to our lovely host in Oregon, Brown Bottle Farm, to learn, celebrate, get silly, stay inspired, and co-create a community around fungi that is empowered, connected, and supported in their respect for all of the world's inhabitants.

Tending the Mycoculture

Underlying the RMC is an emphasis on enhancing quality of life for people and the planet, just as the fungi do so well. We value mushrooms not for what humans can take from them, but for what we can learn from them through observation, experimentation, and artistic expression. Through the RMC’s many creative experiences and hands-on workshops we hope to uplift this so-often overlooked branch on the tree of life, and to show just how multi-faceted and incredible mushrooms are.

The RMC is a family-friendly event that welcomes all people. It is not a purely scientific pursuit – though many of the workshops are taught by experts with decades of experience. Nor is the event all arts and games – through we do our best to bring inspiration forward through the weekend’s performances and special events.

At its core, the RMC aims to present the many influences of fungi on humans through educational, entertaining, and unforgettable experiences.

Our workshops cover the natural sciences, sustainable living practices, cultural histories, and practices for better connecting with the natural world. Such diverse perspectives, we believe, is why many attendees say the RMC is unlike any other event.

We encourage all participants to come with an excitement to learn from these various perspectives and to discover new ways to appreciate all fungi.
